Konami reveals GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon sidescroller

The project is a sequel to 1987’s original Famicom game

If you were given 30 guesses as to which Konami IP would next get a sequel, we’re guessing an obscure 1987 Famicom platformer wasn’t on the list. Thankfully, though, it’s actually happening. GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon is a modernized action-adventure platformer from the publisher that mixes Sumi-E art and Japanese mythological views of Hell together to tell almost a scroll-like story.

In the game, players use mystical skills from the Getsu clan to battle the forces of the undead as they wage war on the land of the living. The hack-and-slash rogue-like focuses on precision swordfighting more than just button mashing, with weapon enhancements as a key factor to success.

The rogue-like aspect comes into play as the levels of hell are auto-generated, so that each brutal journey towards defeating the giant bosses is a fresh one.

GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon arrives on Early Access in May and on Nintendo Switch in 2022.
