Report: Netflix working on live action Pokémon show

Pika-choose your streaming service wisely

Netflix is in love with the Pokémon universe, having already streamed several of the anime series over the years, including the latest Pokémon Journeys. Now, it appears as though the streaming giant is taking the next step towards its love affair with everything pocket monster related.

Variety is reporting that a live action Pokémon series is in the works. The series is being handled by Joe Henderson, the showrunner for current Netflix show Lucifer, who will Executive Produce and Write. The series is aiming to bounce off of the popularity of 2019’s Detective Pikachu, which is one of the highest grossing and more well-received video game adaptations of all time.

No word on plot, cast, or release date yet, but with the Pokémon IP hitting an all-time high during its current 25th anniversary year, we’re not surprised that this and other projects are in the works. Netflix has been making a huge run at video games, grabbing several IP for live action and anime series and movies, to combat Disney & HBO’s dominance of the comic book space. It seems to be paying off, as Castlevania has been a hit and fans are looking forward to new Assassin’s Creed and Sonic the Hedgehog shows on the service.
