Forza Horizon 5 reveals cover cars and glorious intro race

Brand new gameplay shows the game’s initial drive across Mexico

Forza Horizon 5 is shaping up to be yet another fantastic entry in the once fun sidequest of the main Forza series. In our opinion it’s firmly taken over, becoming the most fun racing realistic experience, with an arcade gloss, out there. With the latest game arriving on November 9th, Microsoft is in full marketing mode, and we’re reaping the benefits.

The developer, Playground Games, took to Microsoft’s Xbox showcase at Gamescom to show off a few more details about the project, including the cover cars and the game’s initial drive.

Typically one vehicle will grab the game box/marketing headlines, but Microsoft and Playground opted to have both the Mercedes-AMG ONE and the 2021 Ford Bronco Badlands share the spotlight. The two wildly different cars, an off-road SUV and an powerful track racer, will obviously treat the many environments differently, but that’s expected from the series and a huge part of the enjoyment.

The initial drive — essentially the intro sequence to the game — has also been revealed, as shown in the video at the top of this post. It kicks off with a Bronco being dropped from a transport plane into a Mexican volcano, and gets progressively wilder from there. It’s caught up to Fast and Furious, and I’m all for it. Time to send the games to space, in other words.

To celebrate the game, Microsoft has also revealed a new colorway for the Xbox controller, featuring a translucent yellow top shell with splashes of neon colors across the surface and buttons.

The limited edition controller is available for preorder now.

Forza Horizon 5 (and the controller) launches for Xbox and PC on November 9th.
