The pandemic gets extended as yet another Sonic the Hedgehog sequel and a Knuckles TV series are announced

More hedgehog action than the CDC was asking for

Listen, we’re not putting the blame on Sonic the Hedgehog per se, but we’re now two years into this pandemic and that’s exactly two Sonic movies. And JUST when we thought we were seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, yet another Sonic movie has been announced — and *also* a Knuckles streaming show.

I guess that means COVID is endemic now? Is that the proper definition? Because at this point Sonic is never-ending.

Anyhoo, with the next Sonic movie dropping in April, SEGA and Paramount have announced that a third movie has been greenlit, probably landing in two years, because that’s the cadence now. The companies have also announced that Sonic 2’s Knuckles will star in his own series streaming on Paramount+ and STILL be voiced by Idris Elba.

There’s no official release date for either product, but I’m sure we’ll hear about Sonic 4, 5, a Tails series, and Baby Robotnik movie in the next few weeks too.

I can’t believe we’re going to live in a post-pandemic world where Idris Fucking Elba will be known mostly for being a video game character. This is the future we have wrought.
