Sony raises the price of the PS5

It’s the modern pricing boogey man

Sony is bringing up the price of the PlayStation 5 in several territories and countries, the company revealed. Sony’s head of SIE Jim Ryan announced the news in a blog post, citing the “the global economic environment” and how it is having adverse effects on the supply chain and inflation.

The price hike is effective immediately, and affects essentially ever major region except for America (for now). It’s the harsh reality of the economic situation, especially considering how difficult it already is to find a PS5 in stores. Perhaps with this price jump there may be a few people backing off. Meta (FACEBOOK!) did the same thing with its Quest VR headset recently, but it threw in a free game at least. Who knows what will happen here, or if it is the new permanent retail price (until eventual price drops take place when/if the device reaches that typical consumer threshold).
