It’s all kinds of insane, and we love it
Nintendo and Illumination have revealed the final trailer for the upcoming Super Mario Bros Movie at a Direct presentation today. The trailer details more of the plot of the film, namely that — SURPRISE — Mario needs to rescue his bro Luigi and save the Mushroom Kingdom.
When the movie was announced, many of us wondered what the producers and directors would tackle. Would it follow along a specific plot of one of the Mario games? Would it be something new? Would there be Easter eggs? The truth seems to be all of the above, as the trailer reveals a trip through Mario’s history, from the OG Mario Bros subterranean platforming co-op game to Donkey Kong and Super Mario Bros 1, to Mario Kart, Mario 64, and even Super Mario Galaxy. It touches on some of the biggest moments in the games, bringing them to their biggest screen yet. Nintendo likely wants to make this a nostalgia-filled spectacle so that when the obviously-happening sequel drops in a few years they can further play with the IP.
