Holy crap, Final Fantasy Tactics is back with a remaster, and it’s ever more prescient now

We’re going going back back to Ivalice Ivalice

Final Fantasy Tactics is one of the GOATs of old school tactical RPGS. It’s maybe THE GOAT. The game set the world on fire as fans had no idea just how well the fantasy role playing game would translate over to a different genre. It did VERY WELL.

And now it’s back! Revealed during today’s State of Play, Square Enix’s GOAT is returning as a remastered version known as The Ivalice Chronicles. The new release of the game will come with improvements to visuals (now in high def), interface, quality of life, and even new voice acting and scripting, alongside more conversations to better flush out the story.

If that’s not enough, the package will also allow players to jump into the classic PlayStation version if that’s what they want to play.

Final Fantasy Tactics is a deep story about tyranny, resistance, and standing up for what’s right, so much so that Square Enix’s Yasumi Matsuno, the game’s original script, scenario writer and editor took to social media to make a statement about its importance today as much as it was so many years ago.

GOAT moves all around.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles arrives for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series and PC on September 30, 2025.
