Dragon Quest VII is getting remade! Again!
It’s the wildest of timelines that we’re in. Not only are we getting classic Dragon Quests next month, but we’re also getting classic Dragon Quests NEXT YEAR.
During today’s Nintendo Direct Square Enix revealed Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, a new remake of the classic RPG. The game is being rebuilt from the ground up, using hand-crafted dolls based on Toriyama’s character designs. Gone is the HD-2D for this version.
The new version will “streamline” aspects of the game (read: that long, long opening section without any action) and introduce quality of life improvements. It’ll also overhaul the battle system, with now vocations and the capability to “moonlight” with a second vocation in tow. A new “let loose” ability will let players go bonkers when a character gets worked up, kind of like a Limit Break.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined will launch on Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on February 5, 2026 — perfect timing for when you’ve finally just completed Dragon Quest I & II HD2D Remake.
