We played Hollow Knight: SILKSONG on Switch 2! [Hands-on Preview]

The biggest indie game of recent years is finally upoin us, and we play it at PAX West on the Switch 2!

The verdict? IT’S FUCKING SICK.

The demo on display at Nintendo’s booth at PAX West was on handheld only, but that didn’t matter. It still displayed incredibly smooth visuals and controls that worked just as we remember them on Hollow Knight. Two areas were presented — early in the game (fewer moves and an easier play area to get newcomers accustomed to the game) and later on (more challenging, with more moves opened and higher difficulty in the enemies and terrain). The early area was a gorgeous forest, with vines and plants and a mid boss that had a simplified pattern of attack. The second section was more diverse, with a dusty, almost honey-licked design.

Is this a completely new experience? From our session it didn’t feel like it, but it doesn’t really have to. It’s more Hollow Knight, GOOD Hollow Knight, and we’re very ready for the final release.

Silksong is almost here, and this lite taste had us ready for the final launch this coming week.

Check out the video above as we go hands on with the upcoming game from the show floor.

SideQuesting had a chance to go hands-on with the game at PAX West 2025.
