Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate – Pipin’ Hot Collector’s Edition unboxing and review

The giant fan-focused collector’s edition of the rogue-like TMNT game gets us into a nostalgia frenzy

If TMNT was Hades you’d have Splintered Fate. An IDW comics inspired Ninja Turtles rogue-like adventure isn’t gonna light the world on fire but it still gets the job done and is just another shockingly good game in the Turtles’ legacy. Splintered Fate started off as a mobile game and is now home on consoles. In this latest adventure we aim to rescue Splinter while rogue-liking our way through levels, meeting every Turtles character we would expect to meet.

Combat is RPG-lite in an isometric world that really does feel inspired by Hades. I wasn’t just saying that to say it; the upgrade progression is satisfying and never really feels like an uphill battle.

In addition to the game I was provided the Piping Hot Collector’s Edition loaded with content. Posters, a comic, a challenge coin (that I didn’t know what it was when I opened the box as you can hear in the video but now I understand that it’s a replica of an in game collectible needed for upgrades), an artbook/manual, and best of all a tin with TMNT tabletop dice — which while cool is a little silly since it’s not really inspired by THAT kind of RPG but I’m not complaining.

It’s a lot of really cool stuff that would be right at home in any TMNT fan’s collection, and with that cool pizza box maybe it should be.

This review is based on a product sent to SideQuesting by the publisher. The game and Pipin’ Hot Collector’s Edition is available now.
