Cling to Blindness review: Hearing is believing

An audio-only mystery leaves J.J.’s heart pounding. Put on a blindfold and listen to his review of Cling to Blindness!

Cling to Blindness is an audio-only game, a horror game (so you know it’s good). And it’s one of the more memorable and tense games I’ve played in a while. The game has a bit of a gimmick that the developers really want us to set up, which is to play with a blindfold on and wear a headset. In fact I highly recommend following the rules because the game is that much more immersive because of it.

We are taking on a ritual, and in this ritual (in the game) the other characters blindfold us and sort of set us loose in the forest. We’re looking for five talismans while also being pursued by an entity, like a bit of a Slenderman thing.

The gameplay is really simple. We move the mouse left and right and are sort of echolocating. We’re listening for chimes, and when we feel like we’ve zeroed it in we click the mouse and move forward. And eventually, we’ll zoom it in and get to the objective.

It’s definitely more like an interactive novel where getting to the objective turns the page. At some point we’re going to be pursued and hear footsteps behind us, and it’s our job to get away from those footsteps until we don’t hear them anymore. And then we’re clear and can move on again. If the footsteps catch up to us, it’s game over.

And that’s the game. It’s story driven and has really good voice acting, especially for the main character. It can be really tense because we are just kind of listening, and it’s perfect at only an hour.
