Mr. Sleepy Man review: Respectfully, yours

Mr. Sleepy Man is aimed at a particular type of platforming enjoyer

I want every platformer to feel like Super Mario 64, and when it doesn’t, like this one, I can’t connect with it as well. Mr. Sleepy Man feels a lot like Banjo-Kazooie, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad, it just means that it’s aimed towards a specific kind of player.

In the game we play a sleepy man who has to explore and interact in his dreams. The gameplay loop is centered on running around levels and causing havoc. We can’t make our way out in a direct run, and are locked out in a way because we don’t have everything we need. So we have to kind of mess up the storylines within the game’s levels, and when we do we can unlock something or get an item, and then reset the day with the item we needed and run through the level again.

It’s a lot like Majora’s Mask but as a platformer.

Mr. Sleepy Man has enough cool little things we can do that it’s genuinely fun, and the gameplay loop is a really interesting twist. It’s not necessarily in my camp, but I can definitely recommend it to people who love this N64/Rare era of games.
