The new Fatal Fury/Garou Densetsu history book is a terrific compendium of the series’ development.
My earliest gaming obsessions are as follows: Super Mario Bros, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, and Street Fighter II. I even had the Champion Edition on Genesis, which in hindsight isn’t the best one to get all nostalgic over but that’s not the point here. The point is my love for fighting games absolutely never diminished. In recent years, the art book trend has extended out to video games as our hunger to look behind the screen increases.
Bitmap Books has released an absolutely stunning and totally comprehensive look at the Fatal Fury franchise starting with the inspirations and going all the way up to City of Wolves. I haven’t really seen a game book dive this deep into the archives and with so many interviews that add even more to the developement background. I especially appreciate the inclusion of granular details like the individual sprites for animations.
Fatal Fury/Garou Densetsu: The Ultimate History is a book for any game fan that’s interested in how the sausage is made. It’s a gorgeous tribute to fighting greatness.
