Coming to Xbox and… I guess just Xbox?
There may have been some confusion on when and where the next Gears of War game was dropping, and now we know the answer to both.
Gears of War: E-Day will be an Xbox exclusive and launch on the platform (and PC and Game Pass) on October 6, 2026. That news came during Xbox’s annual showcase event, revealing the plot and gameplay of the prequel.
The game will feature Marcus Fenix and his infamous squad of troops coming together, serving as the core of the narrative as the Locust make their first attack on the planet. It’s an origin story in a lot of ways, in other words, that sets up the future of the series and how the characters and enemies are tied together.
Developed by The Coalition, the game was further detailed in an extended look as the second half of Xbox’s Summer Game Fest showcase. This included a deeper dive into the gameplay:
Though the game wasn’t announced for PlayStation 5, many believed that it would make its way to that platform as well (considering that the remaster of the original just did). However that doesn’t seem to be the case, at least not any more. Journalists reported that sources stated the game actually was in development, and only recently (as in RIGHT BEFORE THE SHOWCASE) was it pulled from the platform. This may be best proven due to a Deep Dive video Xbox posted about the game, with a PlayStation logo clearly on the title card. That video is now deleted and replaced.

Fans can dive into Gears of War: E-Day on October 6th, EXCLUSIVELY on Xbox.
