Forget Sad Dad, we got the Dead Mom genre now
As their closing video, Sony revealed a huge surprise new game in the God of War saga. God of War: Laufey follows Faye post-death. The wife of Kratos and mother to Atreus had an untimely end, but that may not mean the ACTUAL end.
In the game, players will take control of Faye as she battles her way in an afterlife known as “Everywhen” where Gods go to die, across different religions and beliefs, to get back to her family. It’s an action-heavy experience, as much as God of War (2018) and Ragnarok, and will focus on the warrior as she uses skills from both Greek and Norse worlds. There’s a genuine “launch them up in the air” combo system that looks intense and acrobatic, which definitely wasn’t in God of War because Kratos is a chonkster.
The game, developed by Santa Monica Studio, is considered the next part of the God of War saga and not a spin-off or a side story. It’s being directed by Ariel Lawrence, who has worked alongside the studio’s Cory Balrog for over 20 years.
The game’s cast includes Deborah Ann Woll reprising her role as Faye (Laufey), The Boys’ Jack Quaid as Phranque and Perlina Lau as Rue.
To find out more about Faye, Sony put a short videop together detailing her role in the last two games.
God of War: Laufey is “coming soon” to PlayStation 5.
