This is so fucking stupid, man
I’m writing this article, by myself, with no spell check, no assistance, just because I know how to spell stuff and write things and because I went to elementary school and learned basic grammatical skills.
And yet somewhere there’s a dudette or dude using ChatGPT to ask how to unclog a toilet, who can’t do long division, who can’t figure out how to write a “Q” in cursive because they haven’t written on a notepad in weeks.
And there’s a CEO who just told all of his staff to “use AI” even though he doesn’t know what to use it for or what it even is.
And because of that, everything that anyone wants to buy that’s actually supporting capitalism is becoming wildly expensive. Only the 1% can afford Lucky Charms, eggs and broccoli, mother fuckers.
The latest victims are ourselves, again, through Xbox and Apple. Both of the companies have announced massive price hikes to some of their most popular products.
Apple has raised the price of its MacBooks and iPads by as much as $300, and XBOOOOOX just jacked up the price of the Series X and S by as much as $150. Microsoft writes in their blog post:
“Effective August 1, 2026, we will be updating prices worldwide. The price of XBOX consoles will increase by US$100 for 512 GB models and US$150 for 1 TB models. We will also be sunsetting our 2 TB model.”
That means that the cheapest Series S is now $499 while the most affordable Series X is $749.
This all follows the news that the cheapest Steam Machine will launch at an unfathomable $1049 without a controller or a soul.
Video games, at least the newest hardware platforms, are essentially out of reach for most of us. But, you know, go ahead use the expensive calculator to make a funny video of a shark eating a burger, I’m sure it’ll be fine.
It’s time to break out the NES and play Double Dragon, that’s all we can afford right now.
