Agent 64: Spies Never Die looks retro fantastic

Back in the trident controller saddle we go

I was a huge fan of GoldenEye 007 back in art school. My roommates and I would spend hours on Friday nights playing match after match after match, learning metas, and figuring out hiding places. Perfect Dark was also fantastic, if not much better, it just didn’t have the Bond IP. And while there have been some really good success stories when developers try to make similar attempts I have to admit that my heart always has room for more.

Enter Agent 64: Spies Never Die, a new game by solo indie dev Replicant D6 that aims to capture everything I (we!) loved about that genre of console FPS games with twists of its own. Not only will there be a full single player (and co-op) campaign but also a full multiplayer mode, which is what made those original games so good. Up to 4 players can play locally and 8 online, with 8 more bots available for that online session. There will also be a hella lot of modifiers available to make those modes even more unique each time, like which guns we can use or just melee, for example.

The game, originally announced way back in 2022, will bring that college couch nostalgia back when it launches on PC on August 11, 2026.
