A PHYSICAL RELEASE, in THIS economy?!
Wow, a physical release! Considering the slow, untimely death of the medium, any news about physical video game releases is a sort of novelty now, being somewhat cheered by fans and the industry. The latest physical release to get some fanfare is… an Xbox game?? ON NINTENDO?
Yes, that’s right: The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered is launching on a full cart, not some Game Key Card like one might expect.
Bethesda, a part of ZeniMax Media, a part of Xbox Game Studios, a part of Xbox, a part of Microsoft, revealed the news during a release date announcement (see the quirky video below). The game has been available on Xbox Series and PS5 for a minute, but now makes its formal jump to the Switch 2, bringing with it DLC and improved visuals, all which should make plenty of Nintendo fans happy who may have never played the game.
This news comes at a time when it might be easy enough to just release the game digitally, considering that companies seem to just not care about consumer- and preservation-friendly physical releases any more.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered hits the Switch 2 on August 11, 2026.
