The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered review (Switch 2)

The classic RPG is back, and makes its cromulent way to the Switch 2.

Bethesda somehow managed to get Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered squeezed down onto the Switch 2, and for the most part, it works! 30 frames per second isn’t as nearly an eyesore in handheld as you might expect, but docked might have you reaching for any other system close at hand.

While everything is technically okay, unfortunately it did little to bring me into the love for Bethesda’s massive open world series. It’s a me problem, and I went in with an open mind, and I can see ideas that I like, but Elder Scrolls has never had what I typically crave out of video games. That plus Oblivion Remastered’s adherence to game design edges that Skyrim smoothed over, and I have to chalk this up as “not for me.”

Even still, if you want Oblivion in the palm of your hand (rather large hands, the Switch 2 is big), then this is the version for you. Just look elsewhere if possible if you’re primarily going to be on bigger screens.
