What game series needs a reboot?

That was the question we asked today on Twitter as part of our now semi-regular #Gamechat.  Much like the Prince of Persia art-inspired reboot and the recently announced Devil May Cry reboot, there are several series conventions that are growing long in the tooth.  The answers we received were varied, but most centered around NES games that had gone astray through their most recent incarnations.  Below you’ll find some of the most interesting suggestions.

#Gamechat: September 28th

spambot: I want a Goonies 3 #Gamechat

BigBossBgilbert: Man, fucking River City Ransom. I been asking for that for YEARS. Also, Frequency/Amplitude.

j_j_holder: Alex Kidd or a modern update to Crystalis. #Gamechat

DR1665: R-Type?

skrattybones: I’d kill for a new Frequency/ Amplitude. I f’ing loved Frequency.

theroostarr: Cruisin’ USA

LudwigK: The Legend of Zelda.

dfrandsen: SimCity.

AllNudeRevue: Fear Effect

Stockline: StarFox

chaseorbechased: #GameChat Mega Man needs a modern reboot.

JonKehoe: Oh there’s a few: Actraiser, Double Dragon, Star Tropics, Excite Bike, and yeah, I do agree with @ludwigk. Zelda.

  1. Pirrip

    I like SimCity :)

  2. I love fighting games, and Capcom has done well with Street Fighters ’4′ and ‘Super 4′–but I’d appreciate some diversity.

Honestly, I’d love a modern SNK fighting game with competent online multiplayer.

But, for nostalgia’s sake, I’d like a modern iteration of Rival Schools. Perhaps even toss in cheesy anime sequences, and have corresponding manga and amine series. :)
