Dan Trachtenberg’s Portal: No Escape is as good as they get

Fan films are always a tough thing to parse. If they’re “too true” to the source material, they can come off as campy. If they stray too much from it, they anger fans.

Dan Trachtenberg, of Totally Rad Show fame (and friend of SideQuesting… Hi Danny!) has done the impossible and created a wonderful interpretation of one of our most beloved games, Portal. There’s not much to explain, and we don’t want to ruin the film by giving away the plot.

Just sit back, enjoy, and hope that he makes more.

Dang, that was pretty sweet. Do you have that girl’s phone number?

That was lovely. Like the best thing.

Sweet. I love me some Portal.

I used to watch The Totally Rad Show. Haven’t watched anything from Revision 3 in a while, though.

Getting back on topic, I thought that was pretty well done aside from the paintball helmets (or whatever they are) feeling inadequate for filling the roll of combine headgear. Kudos to him and his team for creating something worth sitting through.

This video was freaking awesome. But how did she know the portal gun was in the wall?

Also, entry #3 for Deus Ex contest.

Pure eye candy. My only complaint – too short, I would have loved to seen more or a continuing series. I’m sure we all could agree on that.

Saw this on Reddit a couple of days ago. Seriously impressive short film. Looks amazing for an amateur production.

Oh and 3rd entry for DE:HR!

Wow, really impressive :) Love the ending!
Deux Ex:HR entry (if I have to say that)

This fan made film has me impress. It’s really that good.

This is absolutely brilliant. I’d totally watch a longer version of it.

I like Portal, but sometimes I think people take this a bit too seriously, but hey, if people keep making sweet stuff like this, I’ll keep watching.

Also yes whoring myself out third Deus Ex post.

Valve should create a new portal gun that opens a screen to fan videos like this one.
