The PA Report feels Valve wants (or needs) a closed system

Ben Kuchera over at The PA Report takes a look at what we know the “Steam Box” is, what we hope it is, and the challenges Valve is facing moving forward. In order to achieve success with a product like this, Valve needs to remove the problems facing a typical PC purchase today — incomprehensible names for video cards and a slew of other individual parts and pieces the average consumer doesn’t understand being at the top of that list.

Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Phil Harrison has some advice

phil_harrison

Phil Harrison, a Microsoft executive who has also worked with Sony in the past has some words of advice for Valve and anyone else currently working on a fresh new console. His take is that, from a business perspective, a company needs to be sitting right to succeed in the console market, but ultimately welcomes anyone making a play for a piece of the market as it helps the games industry grow as a whole.

You can read his statement over at Eurogamer.

Polygon has a chat with Valve’s Greg Coomer about the “Steam Box” and Big Picture

original

Polygon gives us a look at Valve’s thoughts on the “Steam Box”, and how massively they’re hedging their bets on the hardware. With almost two dozen prototypes under their belt, it seems painfully obvious that Valve is aware of the monumental task they’ve undertaken. On the plus side, if any company can come out swinging in the console market these days, it’s probably Valve.

The Oculus Rift is pretty dope

oculus-rift-kickstarter

It isn’t quite The Matrix yet, but impressions on the Oculus Rift are apparently pretty positive. Dan Nosowitz at PopSci delivers his impressions on the peripheral, and it’s enough to make me finally want one. The most exciting part about these, and other, impressions is how well the device apparently works. All I can say is if Star Citizen winds up utilizing the device for a deeper immersion I will officially be plugging in and never coming out.
