Kickstart This: Zombie Mode mashes Zelda-inspired puzzles with Metroidvania and zombies

Quick disclaimer: Zombie Mode is developed by my (Dali Dimovski) brother.

There are a lot of zombie games, you guys. Like, A LOT of zombie games. It seems like every idea related to the genre has been done to death, no pun intended. It would take something pretty fresh to get us interested.

Zombie Mode hopes to bring that freshness. Developed by one person studio Cocky Culture, the game stars character Noface as he awakens to find a zombie eating his face. Trying to make his way out of the house of horror that he’s trapped in, Noface must use the weapons he finds to eviscerate the undead and solve puzzles. The game is a sidescrolling platformer in which players need to move room-by-room to escape, a la the Legend of Zelda, acquiring the necessary tools along the way. There’s a little Metroidvania mixed in for good measure.

I had some time with an Alpha build of the game at E3, and noted that the black & white visual style was unique and creative.

Zombie Mode’s Kickstarter runs until November 26th and is asking for $23,000 to bring in help with the sound and audio, and to help it release on several platforms. Reward tiers include personalized images and even hand-crafted Munny figures. It’s currently slated for PC, iOS, Android, and Ouya in 2014. You can find the Kickstarter here.
