The games will take place in a new region.
During its Pokémon Direct today, Gamefreak, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo announced that the next mainline games in the series are Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.
The game will take place in a new region, named Galar. The UK (I prefer “Westeros-like”) themed area contains mountains, plains, and big cities, as its citizens work in a sort of industrial revolution.
The starter Pokémon have been identified as the funky grass monkey, Grookey, the speedy rabbit Scorbunny, and the shy water lizard Sobble.
Visually, the game seems to push past what the recent Pokémon Let’s Go games showed off last year, and has a distinct anime feel overall.
Pokémon Sword and Shield arrive for the Nintendo Switch later this year.
