Nintendo’s MOBA-like Pokémon Unite arrives in July

League of Legend of Arceus

Well, maybe Arceus, the featured ‘Mon from the upcoming open world Pokémon game for Switch, won’t be in Pokémon Unite but we couldn’t stop ourselves from using it in the article. The Pokémon Company and its development partner TiMi Studio Group have revealed that Unite will arrive in July for Nintendo Switch and later this September for mobile devices.

The game is a MOBA themed around the popular monster-collecting and battling series, and features the Pokémon in teams of 5 that battle each other on the island of Aeos. The goal is to have the highest collective team score by the end of the match, and to utilize items and the terrain to the team’s advantage. Different stadiums that are battled in have their own rules and tweaks to the battles as well. Pokemon will begin each match at Level 1, but will grow in power and skills as they earn experience throughout the battle. Therefore, if you favor a certain beast then it’ll excel quicker than others.

A battle pass will be available that will grant new visual upgrades and items, but won’t affect the battler’s skills at the onset of matches.

Pokémon Unite will launch on Nintendo Switch in July and in September for mobile devices, with cross-play and cross-progression planned. It’s billed as a “free-to-start” game in that it’s fully accessible to players who want to dive in, but certain aspects and visual upgrades will be tied to the battle pass.
