On tonight’s episode of Saturday Night Live, host Pedro Pascal became the Mario that we all really wanted. The variety show took it upon itself to spoof PlayStation & HBO’s The Last of Us with a similar take on… Mario Kart?
Yes, a dystopian Mario Kart. With the Mushroom Kingdom falling into chaos, it’s up to Princess Peach and Mario to save it from Bowser’s reign of terror. Mario needs to take Peach through Rainbow Road and the only way is via kart.
And it’s all kinds of amazing. The visuals looking exceedingly high budget for an SNL skit, and the choices are meant to parallel The Last of Us’ themes (Goombas are sentient fungi, duh).
We can only hope that Nintendo’s upcoming Super Mario Bros Movie is half as good as this.
