Hyper Light Breaker shows off first gameplay, but gets delayed, too

Not-so-early access

Hyper Light Drifter served as much of an homage to the 2D Legend of Zelda games as it drew inspiration from them. Once we started played the game, we knew right away what to do — that familiarity of the 8-bit and 16-bit action adventure series never goes away.

With the sequel, developer Heart Machine opted to follow it up with an homage to the 3D Zeldas, especially with 2017’s Breath of the Wild. Hyper Light Breaker certainly captures that feel, aiming to expand on players’ love of open world exploration, but the emphasis on high action and infinite possibilities may just set it apart. HLB focuses on procedurally-generated color saturated worlds, unlimited deaths, and the ability to change the loadout in any way desired (INFINITE!) so that each playthrough chips away at the end goal while also allowing players to experience something new each time.

It’s certainly intriguing!

But it’s also certainly delayed, at least the Early Access version. The new date for launch of the game in EA is the second half of the year, so we’ve got time to savor the gameplay video above and just… wait.
