Mortal Kombat 1 reboot debuts in first gore-filled trailer

OH GOD THERE’S SO MUCH BLOOD

After all of the teases and hints, the new old Mortal Kombat has been officially revealed. Mortal Kombat 1 (or is it Mortal 1 Kombat? hmm.) will be bringing the series full circle as its second major reboot. After the events of the previous game (MK11) the timeline was reset and everything basically ended. Now, the only way forward is to restart the series — and thankfully so. Though the MK games have been terrific and fun, they’d hit a bit of a wall in terms of pushing the IP, so NetherRealm Studios seem to have taken a few steps to remedy that.

The new game will begin the series anew, with new takes on the classic fighters like Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Mileena, Shang Tsung, and others, and mix in brand new Fatalities and a “new” combat mechanic. AND it includes rollback netcode, too!

The introductory trailer showed possible the most blood and gore I’ve ever seen in a Mortal Kombat, though we wouldn’t necessary call it gameplay — that’s yet to be revealed fully.

The game will arrive on September 19th for Xbox, PlayStation, PC and Switch, with DLC and a Season Pass already planned. The Kombat Pack will even feature a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin for Jonny Cage! There will be 6 playable characters and 5 Kameo Fighters arriving post-launch. A beta will arrive in August for PS5 & Xbox Series.
