[Hype Train] Get ready for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with everything to melt your eyes

It’s almost time for one of the most-anticipated games of the decade

We’ve been waiting and waiting for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for what seems like an eternity, and now, in just a few hours or so, we’ll actually be playing it. It’s a joyous occasion (we just hope the game is good)!

TOTK will bring Link and Zelda back to us as a direct follow-up to the mega popular (and one of the greatest games of all time) Breath of the Wild, and has a lot to live up to. It’s still a 3D open world, but will have a lot of new features, enemies, and details that its predecessor was missing.

With that said, we’re linking up some eye and ear candy for you (and us, honestly) in the last few days before launch. Have a look at all of the majesty below, and get your bodies ready. It’s a Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Hype Train!

We first heard about Tears of the Kingdom, then known as the sequel to Breath of the Wild, way back at E3 2019. It’s been THAT LONG! Here’s that first, ethereal trail.

Then, things went silent… until 2021 when we finally saw an update. A new trailer aired at Nintendo’s presentation during the all-digital E3, and showed the sky islands for the first time.

And then, finally, we found out the name of the game, Tears of the Kingdom, just last year. At its September 2022 Direct, Nintendo finally gave us what we’d been hoping for: a firm release time and the first full trailer.

Then in February at another Nintendo Direct, the company dropped the second full trailer. This revealed the crafting aspect that will be sure to fill timelines with memes for years to come.

It wasn’t long after that that the floodgates opened and the company started dropping info and info and info for the game. At a Zelda-focused Direct in April the game’s Director Mr. Aonuma dove into the gameplay mechanics and crafting that will are all new to the game.

The company even revealed a new themed Switch, controllers, amiibo, and more for the game.

And then, the final amazing glorious wonderful trailer dropped to hype us beyond belief. Most people watched this and then put themselves on media blackout until launch. We don’t blame them — it’s that awesome.

So, now that we’re firmly in the final days, Nintendo has been dropping a ton of information every day. The ads are starting to roll out for the game, starting with the “You Can Do What?” version that focuses on the features:

The next asks us to “Dive into the Unknown”:

But it may be the Australian advertisement that pulls at the Sad Dad heartstrings in all of us:

There’s even a whole new series of Ask the Developer that’s been focusing on the ins and outs of the game’s dev process with some of the people involved behind the game. The first two focus on “hands”:

Chapter 3 deals with the fabled “D” word that is making us giddy:

On Thursday, May 11, Starting at 6:45PM PT/9:45PM ET the company is hosting a launch edition of its Treehouse Live that will focus on the game:

Finally, it may have been years since many played Breath of the Wild. To help bring folks up to speed, Nintendo has prepared a “catch up” video to get us right on schedule with the events of the game.

And, that’s it (for now)! With just hours to go, the hype is building at an unprecedented peak for a Nintendo game, and it may burst when the game launches on May 12, 2023 at midnight ET.
