Sony uses CES to update film and TV projects
The new year has kicked off and CES is roaring, with Sony taking the stage to talk about some tech, cars, and TV — and that includes its PlayStation Studios offerings. With the success of The Last of Us, and some of its properties doing well in Amazon’s Secret Level, the mega-company has gone all in on bringing its properties to screens not necessarily attached to PlayStations.
After a long wait, the company finally dropped a teaser for The Last of Us season 2 and announced that the series will be returning in April 2025.
Jumping into its other big IP, it also revealed that a Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime is on the way. Working in partnership with Aniplex, the series will stream on Crunchyroll in 2027. It will be directed by Takanobu Mizuno, with Gen Urobuchi leading the story and animation by KAMIKAZE DOUGA. LEGENDS is the multiplayer mode within Ghost of Tsushima, so it’s fascinating to see this being chosen as the anime direction. It will not change the live action Ghost of Tsushima movie that’s also on the way.
Also revealed was that a Horizon: Zero Dawn movie is on the way. It’s currently in the early stages of development, so there’s no release date or further details announced yet. Let’s just hope the Zelda movie isn’t hitting theaters the same day.
If you’re a Starship Troopers fan, then you’ll be happy to know that a Helldivers film has also been announced. There aren’t any details, but Sony is clearly trying to strike while the game property iron is hot so hopefully it’s still a game in our periphery whenever the movie hits the big screen.
