Plastic guitars are cool again, I swear!
The era of rock gaming might be making a comeback, if recent announcements from manufacturers have anything to say about it. While Guitar Hero went away, Rock Band is still floating around and Harmonix has developed an in-Fortnite rock experience, too. That means that we can start jamming again! CRKD, the company behind some of our favorite recent niche controllers, has announced that it is launching a new guitar controller in collaboration with Gibson.
The controller is scheduled to ship in June (2025) in two flavors, the Les Paul Black Tribal Encore Edition and the Les Paul Blueberry Burst Pro Edition, and will include a modular neck for upgrades and customization. Both versions feature a host of quality of life improvements over classic controllers, including better wireless and wired capabilities, Hall Effect controls and sticks, and more. The Encore Edition arrives with OG frets and a mechanical strum, while the Blueberry Pro will include more robust mechanical frets and a Hall Effect strum.

It really becomes more of a preference between the Encore and Pro, as there’s only a $10 price difference. The controllers will land on most modern platforms (and maybe even some of your classic faves) and can be preordered through the CRKD website now.
Meanwhile, yours truly just ordered his first string guitar to learn how to play via Rocksmith, and I’m already second-guessing where I should have put my money. Huzzah!
