The new console’s price is staying the same… for now
Just one day after it announced the Switch 2 launch and preorder dates, Nintendo pulled it all back thanks to the uncertainties around the tariff war that’s currently taking place. Would the price go up? Would the console be delayed? Would preorders even take place? Well, that has all been answered, albeit with some caveats.
First and foremost, the price of the console is staying the same… for now. Announced at $449.99, that price will remain. In a new press release the company has noted that “At launch, the price for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will remain as announced on April 2.” The AT LAUNCH part is doing some heavy lifting there, as it’s unknown if the tariffs will stick, change, or even if they will actually take place. That means that the price of the Switch 2 could go up after launch or it might not change at all. NO ONE KNOWS.
Now, with the console (and games) maintaining prices for now, the company has announced a $5 bump in prices for much of its licensed Switch 2 accessories.

The extra pair of Joy-Con are already going to make a family of four weep, but now even more so.
Anyhoo, the preorders will now take place in the US (and Canada) on Thursday, April 24th. Both the $449 console and the $499 Mario Kart World bundle will go up on the same day, with the June 5th launch in sight, but the preorder times at each retailer may be different.

Time to get the credit card ready and pray that we will land one.
