Nintendo announces Splatoon Raiders, a new spin-off for us squid kids

Nintendo’s most popular new franchise gets an exclusive new game on its new console

The Splatoon series has always been my cup of tea. It is absolutely solid gameplay, with great innovations in and out of multiplayer. And, for the most part, it HAS been a multiplayer game at its core. The single player stuff, while competent, really only served a purpose of getting players accustomed to the game’s systems.

But not anymore, it seems, as Nintendo has just announced the first spin-off for the series, Splatoon Raiders, that looks to be angled towards a plot rather than online competition.

In the brief trailer for the game, it’s explained that a new mechanic squid kid is on a mission to explore the Spirhalite Islands alongside Splatoon 3’s Deep Cut band. The game looks like its going to be a single player adventure with an entirely new setting, away from Splatoon 3’s wasteland-like zone.

More information is coming soon, but we do know one tidbit: Splatoon Raiders will be exclusive to the Switch 2 whenever it launches.

The company also announced some big updates to Splatoon 3, featuring new weapons, a new season, and improved visuals on the Switch 2. This update arrives on June 12.
