Get ready to cry soon, and not at your family’s turkey dinner
Meg’s Monster is a terrific game, and one that’s been lodged into our heads for the last couple of years. It’s highly unassuming — what starts off looking like a retro trip into monster catching is in fact a deep, emotional tale of loss. Now, it’s getting even more emotional!
The game has new DLC coming. Dubbed Lost Memories, it tells the backstories of 5 unique characters and serves as short prequels. Odencat focuses their development on making every second in their games count so that every step we take, every turn, every interaction isn’t fluff to pad out the length of an experience — everything is coordinated. And because of this it can be short, too. That’s the same here, as the DLC clocks in at about 2 hours.
Accoridng to Odencat the characters that are the focus are:
- An MMA fighter who steps into the ring to earn money for his ailing brother’s medical treatment.
- A young girl whose bickering parents seem eerily on edge about her upcoming fifth birthday.
- An unknown creature tasked with killing their target.
- A man reborn into a monster after death, devoting his new life to improving the Underworld.
- A monster child, raised in a laboratory and subjected to extensive experimentation.
The DLC drops on December 4 on Steam, Switch and Xbox, juuuuust in time to get highly sentimental for the holidays.
