Warhammer 40,000 – Darktide Hive Scum Update review: Good horde, great horde

Warhammer 40k’s latest update to Darktide, Hive Scum, brings along new customizations and dual-wielding to the class.

Darktide has been around for 3, almost 4 years now, and I don’t know if players have been especially excited for a new class as the next bit of DLC but that’s what we’re getting. This class is, however, meaty enough of a change that it provides some really cool new features.

The game is still super fun to play. There are so many little mechanics that we have to learn and know to progress through a level, and so many different ways to kind of manipulate the enemy AI to make sure we don’t die along the way. We’re working with our friends (I played along with SideQuesting’s Taylor) and so the abilities we have are very symbiotic and kind of play off of each other.

I’ve been testing out how much this class affects that symbiosis, and it fits in perfectly. Dual-wielding pistols, which is new to the game, feels natural, and the customizations like visual tattoos and working through the talent tree. Decimating enemies with friends is a blast, and for those of us who still miss Left 4 Dead then this fills that niche perfectly.
