Gunnar stylishly brings Alienware’s Roswell and Fallout’s Brotherhood to our faces
I joke around about it on the podcast and IRL, but somehow I’ve become a glasses influencer. I sit in front of a screen for an unhealthy amount of the day (yay!) and my eyes get tired, so I’m always chasing better eyeware to help reduce the strain. My basic eyeglasses are fine, but now that I’m in my 4… 20s, and I need to stay stylish and accessorize with my clothing.
Gunnar has been making great blue light blocking glasses for a while, but over the past few years their move into collaborating with different IP has led to some truly nice pieces. I wear them throughout the day at home, at the office, at coffee shops and book stores, and they’ve in a way supplanted my own prescription glasses at times because I like how they look not just how they function.
The latest pairs that were sent over to SideQuesting HQ are no different. Working with Alienware and Amazon/Bethesda has led to designs that KICK.
GUNNAR x Alienware “Roswell”

Gunnar has worked with other manufacturers before, but this latest collab with Alienware may be my favorite pair of glasses yet. The translucent blue polymer is dark enough to stand out on my face while at the same time not being too saturated to clash with any of my clothing. The now classic GUNNAR Amber tint isn’t “yellow” but does a really nice job of toning down the blues and bright whites that come from my screens. It’s expertly molded, with great lines along the perimeter and a beautiful offset of the lenses from the bridge. The integrated nose pads include flowing lines that make the entire piece look almost organic.
A secondary, slightly darker blue makes up the temple. The design of the metal hinges is gorgeous, focusing on being mechanical and geomteric as a nice contrast to the softness of the rest of the glasses. Because of the way that the hinges are inset into the translucent portion of temple arm they are visible through the plastic and it’s a stunning detail for those of us who are Design nerds.

They’re not the lightest pair of glasses, but they’re extremely comfortable. Soft inset pads in the nose and temples are welcomed, designed to fit in visually. The glasses don’t have an over-bend, but because the hinges are designed superbly they don’t feel like they’ll break when different head sizes are wearing and stretching them.

The pair even comes with a sick sleeping-bag style carrying case that’s amazingly soft and plushy. I can’t stop squishing it like a stress ball when I’m at my desk. I wore the set at my office last week, and the very first day that one of my coworkers saw them they immediately hopped online and bought a pair for themselves.
GUNNAR x Fallout “Brotherhood of Steel”

The latest Fallout branded set is a little more traditional in initial design, but by no means is the pair something that will be looked past. That’s because of the material and aesthetic choices, which take the ideas of the Wasteland and make them a high fashion statement.
Firstly, the metal frame feels really sturdy, even though it’s surprisingly lightweight. It utilizes a great patina finish that makes the set look like it’s SEEN SOME SHIT in the post-apocalypse. The lens frame opens to ever so little a thickness as it wraps towards the outsides, giving the semblance of goggles made of metal salvaged from a fallen adversary. There are nice little printed icons and graphics all around the frame, making this feel like they were given to high-ranking members of the Brotherhood. My favorite detail, though, is that the bridge has a dual weld on it that gives off a vibe of being hand-made by a smith in the back of a worn down trailer.

The pair is comfortable, too, with the over-bend of the hinge feeling ncie and springy. They don’t feel like they’d break at all if they get caught in our hair or a shirt as we’re moving them about. My only pet peeve is that a tiny Brotherhood of Steel logo is printed on the bottom of one of the lenses, which may not bother most users but for me, because of where I tend to set glasses on my face, it is visible JUST in the periphery. It’s by no means a deal breaker, more a miniscule annoyance that I almost immediately forget about, but it’s there.
Regardless, the Brotherhood of Steel glasses have been the pair that I tend to wear as I’m around outside of the home. They’re subtle but stylish, and are not outright blaring until someone takes a closer look at me. I was at the coffee shop the other day working and no one seemed to care that I had them on until I went up for a second cup of coffee and the barista did a double-take. “Oh, nice glasses. I have GUNNARs at home too. What’s that little logo?”
“The Brotherhood of Steel from Fallout.”
“Oh, awesome! I love New Vegas!”

GUNNAR’s design acumen has continued to get better and better, and these pairs of glasses especially are a nice hat tip to fellow geeks and office zombies alike. They DO come in prescription versions as well, for those that need that route.
