Sony has God of War remakes and demakes in the works

Back to Greece we go!

During today’s State of Play, Sony revealed a few surprises for God of War fans. While there wasn’t anything based on the Norse adventures, Sony Santa Monica wants to celebrate 20 years of the series by dipping back into its classical Greece origins.

Firstly, the studio dropped news that it’s remaking the original God of War Trilogy. The beginnings of Kratos’ wild career as a Greek war god will be back on our screens, hopefully with much-needed improvements in controls and pacing. The development is in its early stages, so it may be a while before we see much more of it.

But, that’s not stopping Sony from releasing something much quicker. The company revealed a retro-infused 2D throwback game showing the birth of Kratos as a solider. God of War: Sons of Sparta traces the hero’s start all the way back to his first times taking out enemies in “classic” pixel visuals and platforming action. It’s not meant to be super deep, but it IS meant to give fans a little treat to thank them for being, uh fans!

Sons of Sparta is out today, as in NOW, in a shadow drop for PlayStation 5.
