The Echo Aviation Controller is a bespoke and exceptional way to control flight sims.
If you haven’t heard of Honeycomb Aeronautical you’re probably not a diehard flight sim person (I certainly hadn’t) but hey, get them on your radar. The Echo Aviation Controller is an incredible little device that’s meant to simluate a full desktop flight simulator controller but on a gamepad that doesn’t take up an entire desk. And boy does it work.
At first glance the controller might seem like a high end game pad, but the similarities stop there fast. While it’s the same profile as our modern gamepads instead of a right thumb stick we have four sliding toggles. We don’t have extra macro buttons on the back, instead we have sliding rudder controls. And we also have interchangeable bits that we can add onto the controller. The entire device is incredibly complex, and yet it’s wildly convenient and accessible.
One of my favorite aspects of the device is that we can download profiles that tune it to specific games, planes and even engines. In Microsoft Flight Simulator I was able to add profiles for 4-engine, 2-engine planes and even helicopters. It’s incredible being able to fly just about anything and make the experience much more realistic than I thought possible. It’s even possible to create and share custom profiles, and with a growing community it’s easy to find one that matches whatever game you’re jumping into.
It has something like 28 different interface points; I’m tempted to try and map the rear rudders to a racing game because that may feel exceedingly natural.

The Echo Aviation Controller a perfect setup for flight sims, especially if we don’t have the space to max out with a huge rig in our game room. I can’t recommend this enough, for all the right reasons.
