*Points to everything going on* WELL CRAP
Stop us if you’ve heard this before: Due to the global climate, a product manufacturer has to raise the prices on its devices.
The latest company to do this is Nintendo, as they’ve just announced an increase to the price of their mega popular Switch 2. Citing the ongoing financial and global instability, the company revealed during their year-end financials that the Switch 2 will be jumping in price by $50 in the US and Canada and €30 in Europe. It also includes a ¥10,000 increase in Japan (which will also hit the OLED Switch, Switch and Switch Lite to varying degrees). It will also affect the prices of Nintendo Switch Online there, which will go up.
It’s a tough time to be a gamer, as pricing is pushing the hobby into very, very expensive territory and out of the hands of a lot of folks who used to be able to afford it. The demographic is shifting towards more affluent and wealthy families, at least for newer devices.
Nintendo has seemingly done everything possible to stave off bringing up the price of the Switch 2, instead raising prices for accessories, products, services and even physical games, to some extent, but now it’s finally hit them in the main wallet.
Anyhoo, all of this takes place on May 25 in Japan and September 1st in the West, with the NSO in July, so if you want to save $50 you’d better jump like Mario RIGHT NOW.
Here are the full breakdowns below.
