Nintendo announces STAR FOX IS BACK with a campaign evolved

Star Fox game is a new take on an older game, but HEY IT’S STAR FOX!

After rumors for what seemed like years, and then something much more solid earlier this year, and then THE SUPER MARIO GALAXY MOVIE, Nintendo has finally finally FINALLY revealed a new Star Fox game! And it’s titled:

STAR FOX!

Revealed today in a suprise 15-minute Nintendo Direct, the game is a reimagining of the most excellent Star Fox 64. While this isn’t the first remake of the game (the 3DS’s Star Fox 64 3D was also terrific) this edition certainly goes the full route for the game. The full, selectable route.

Most immediately noticeable are the stunning visuals. From the cutscenes to the actual gameplay, the developers have opted for a more realisitic animal design. Real fur, real feathers, and wet frogs baby. For many it’s a departure from past Star Fox games, but the series has always tended to push the envelope in visual presentation. The game will feature a full campaign, reimagined, with space, air, land and undersea sections. A Challenge Mode will let players jump back into levels to access more objectives and secrets. In Battle Mode, players will go 4 on 4 in dogfights and can utilize GameShare locally or online for those that don’t have copies of the game yet. Online will require Switch 2 consoles but local players can even use the original Switch 1.

Another cool new feature is that when playing the game and using GameChat, players can now utilize virtual avatars that react to their motions, so instead of just having our faces there we can take on the visage of any of the Star Fox team. It’s like being a Nintendo VTuber! It’s a neat addition that could drive adoption of the GameChat feature. There’s also a mouse mode for those that want to do their firing in some new ways.

And the best part is that the game is coming soon. VERY soon! June 25, 2026! For the easy price of $49.99 digital/$59.99 physical.
