Don’t Lose Aggro focuses on us being a powerful MMO tank that needs to assist others, but that doesn’t necessarily feel great to do so (yet).
One of the big issues I’ve had with MMOs is that when we’re playing as the tank and doing raids we’re covering for a large amount of people, sometimes it’s two and sometimes it’s four. And sometimes it’s, like, TWELVE.
In Don’t Lose Aggro we just have to cover for one other character, who’s just kind of there, with our whole experience depending on both stealing the attention and also doing all of the damage. It wants to be a game that’s about being the defiant tank in a raid, but currently we’re just a heavily tanked person that needs to take the shots from every enemy and obstacle so that other character doesn’t get whacked.
Because this is a rogue-like with randomization, sometimes we’ll get paired with support characters that really affect our immediate game. For instance if we get paired with a healer and that healer goes down, all of a sudden it’s over for us. I understand that’s the point of a tank character, but it doesn’t always make for the most fun experience.
It’s a balance of being what it wants to be and and what we have to do to just take steps forward, and it just isn’t quite there.
There’s an idea here with Don’t Lose Aggro, but it doesn’t have the entirety of its concept down yet. But it’s still in Early Access, and that’s the point of its current state, so hopefully over time the game can grow into the shoes that it’s wearing.
This hot take is based on Early Access code sent to SideQuesting. This video first appeared as a part of The SideQuest Live for May 07, 2026.
