The new Avengers: Doomsday trailer is all about the Victor

Disney/Marvel drops a new look at how Doom is bringing Hell to the worlds

If Doctor Doom has any heart then it’s not showing up here. In the latest trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, a clip that initially was screened at Hall H but only now released online, we are treated to a stage-setting of who this immense evil is.

The video uses a monologue by Sue Storm to show how their once close friend Victor Werner von Doom lost his way, amid scenes of devastation and tragedy in his war against the multiverse. We see worlds torn asunder, heroes falling, and hope completely lost.

And a cool throne room, too. And lots of green.

The buildup towards Doom as the ultimate bad guy has been faster than that of Thanos or even Kang. After only the briefest appearance in the post credits scene of Fantastic Four: First Steps Doomsday will be the first tru major appearance of the character in the MCU. This may seem like we’re going zero-to-60 in character development, but Marvel has actually been dripping info about him in the movie’s external aspects. First the movie was named, then RDJ was announced as the actor which, frankly, created a mini big bang with the masses. Through the film’s Avatar-focused teasers we found out that Doom really is a considerable threat big enough to bridge the universes together, and the first trailer was enough to get folks to buy advance tickets in record numbers. So while the character hasn’t been built up in the movies per se he has been everywhere else.

It’s going to be a big feat to see how he’s truly introduced, how he ties things together, and how everything eventually falls apart before Secret Wars NEXT year, but at the very least it’s going to be filled with a lot of cinematic eye candy and fan-centric moments.

Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18.
