#FreeStuffFriday: Red Dead Redemption [UPDATE]

Red Dead Redemption.  It’s one of the best games of the year thus far.  Many of you have played it, often touting its great use of storytelling in a Western open world setting.

For those that HAVEN’T played it, now is your chance!  We have one copy of the game for PS3 available to send to a lucky reader, courtesy of Rockstar Games!  All you have to do is leave a comment below telling us what open world setting you’d like to see Rockstar tackle next! Europe? Space? Caveman days? It’s your call.  One random commenter will receive the game.

[UPDATE:  Winner, #25: ANDREW!]

How to win?  Simple!

1) Leave a comment in this post telling us what open world setting you’d like to see Rockstar tackle next
2) Enter up to once per day Friday (Aug 13), Saturday (Aug 14), and Sunday (Aug 15)
3) Winner chosen & announced on Sunday night at 10PM EST using a randomizing number selector.

How about Chicago during the Prohibition?

Air Buccaneers. BioShock Infinite might come close, but we need actual dirigibles and whatnot!

Medieval Times – they might as well keep going backwards in time.

I’d love to see Rockstar do an open-world adaptation of this year’s indie darling, Winters Bone. The film is about a 17-year old girl living in the Ozark Mountains forced to take care of her family after her meth addict/maker father disappears and her mom goes insane. One day, the local sheriff pulls up to inform her that her dad put their land and house for his bail and if he doesn’t show for his upcoming trial they’d be kicked out. After hearing of this, she goes on a quest to find out what happened to her father and make him come to the trial.
Imagine wondering about the Ozark landscapes passing by run-down house after run-down house. Wait? Did a bomb blow up in that last one there? Oh, no, that was a meth lab. Searching the remains of it reveals items like batteries, Sudafed, and beakers to use to store water out of the stream your nearby relatives go potty in. You’ll encounter inbred, bikers, and crooked lawmen in this grand adventure.

I think this would be MUCH better than GTA.

They’ve done past and present. I think it’s only appropriate that they head to the future! I can imagine the design meeting now: “It’s like GTA… but in space!”

  • Spiz

GTA Tokyo might be rad. Honestly I’d also like to see Chicago too.

    Grant Theft Zombie Apocalypse

Grand Theft Dog Sled. Open world in the snow

  • MZipper

How about a future based cartoony type of universe – think Futurama.

I like the Zombie idea above also.

  • Atc 1982

I would love to see feudal japan setting

  • JEdwards

Using my reply from yesterday, because I’m unoriginal – “Medieval Times – they might as well keep going backwards in time.”

  • Andrew

    The Crusades

  • James Lockwood

Under water! Kinda like BioShock but modern.

  • Bobby C.

I’d like to see a city with a forest preserve that changes seasons as you play it. So you get leaves falling in autumn, the bleak and beautiful winter, the blooms of spring and the swelter of summer.

    My Saturday entry:

Grand Theft Biodome. It’s like that Polly Shore movie, only funny.

  • Brittany

    Grand Theft Pride and Prejudice

I’d love rockstar to make an open world (multi world?) DBZ game. With an alterverse idea where they could do their own story. Or, since they tend to do the shooter thing, a Boondocks Saints game.

  • arctic00

    GTA Moscow

  • ATC 1982

I want to see them do Kansas Corn Fields and make it fun :) as a guilt pleasure , just cause no one does the middle of the US

  • DyslexicAlucard

I’d like to see them tackle Japan ala Yakuza.

  • nygfan

I think a GTA game in Paris would be fun. Parisians could curse at the stupid Americans and the Americans would run them over in their muscle cars.

  • bluezy

Still waiting on LA Noire… 1940s FTW

  • JEdwards

3rd unoriginal times a charm – Medieval Times

  • Andrew

    The conquistador era.

  • Atc 1982

I want them to take the series to the arctic :)
