Drive Club is team-based racing. It’s not about cars, it’s about people. Collaborative play in teams.”

Evolution Studios debuted their new racing game, Drive Club, for the PlayStation 4 today, taking a team-based approach to gameplay instead of single races. Challenges can be made to anyone, any where, both live and asymmetrically. This can be done through tablets, mobile devices, and even on the web.

The demo that was shown by the development house featured a Hennessy Viper GTR, both outside and in. Exterior-wise, accurate lighting and shadows bounced off of head lamps and sheet metal. Vehicles reflected onto each other. This was all due to what the company called “Photometric modeling and image capture” for extremely accurate car models. On the inside, suede and carpet have fiber-direction mapping. Materials appear accurate and realistic. It was akin to what actual car design studios use to show off their vehicles.

The demo was heavily based on visuals and social interaction, and didn’t dive too much into the actual physics and racing mechanics.

We can expect more information in the coming months, the team stated.
