Inglorious Space combines tabletops and arcades

I’ve been digging deeper and deeper into new tabletop gaming experiences, salivating for everything that pops up in shops and online. This upcoming PAX East should be a heckuva lot of fun, what with the amount of board gaming I’m intending to do and the plethora of games making first appearances there. My current circle of gaming friends is made up of folks whom I used to hit arcades with in the late Eighties and early Nineties, so the sentiment continues to revolve around “the good old days” of geek.

Inglorious Space, by Black Table Games, looks to translate the mechanics and feel of classic arcade shooters onto a physical plane. It’s described as taking something like Galaxian and turning it into a board game. Though the game will have a single-player mode, it’s really designed for multiple people. However, for someone like me who doesn’t always get to game with friends, the solo play will be absolutely welcomed.

The game puts players in the role of bounty hunters in space against hordes of enemies, where cooperative play will lead to greater rewards and backstabbing could be a prime strategic play. This back and forth seems like it could keep the game pretty fluid, with partnerships forming and breaking to keep the play fresh and unpredictable. Each of the game’s characters has unique abilities, and typical match will last upwards of an hour.

Space is currently on Kickstarter asking for $2700 for its initial print run. Designed by Jesse “Mainfinger” Gregory, with help from Shay Gregory, Jonah Gregory and Justin Russo, it has about a month left to capture its goal. If those names sound familiar it’s because Jesse, Jonah and Justin (hey, they all begin with “J”!) have all written for SideQuesting at some point or another, and we couldn’t be prouder of them.

Anyhoo, if the game seems like your kind of jam, take a peek over at its Kickstarter page for more information.
