PokeMalone mixes mocap and music for a unique experience

When The Pokemon Company announced that Post Malone would be performing a celebratory concert to cap off the 25th anniversary of the video game series, most of us had no idea how they would pull it off together.

Perhaps the answer was something that was both expected and surprising, especially coming off of the Pokemon Presents stream the day prior. Malone’s performance was motion-captured, and rendered in a visual style that aped modern clean CGI movies wit a bunch of Pokemon thrown in. Fidelity-wise, it was arguably better than the clip of Pokemon Legends: Arceus that the company debuted Friday, but that wasn’t necessarily a tell — just a stylistic choice. The set list hit on Malone’s biggest hits, as well as a cover of Hootie’s “Only Wanna Be With You,” which is actually a pretty good take.

Anyways, the video is up permanently now, and the Pokemon Company has announce more music with an album releasing this Fall featuring top stars like Katy Perry and J Balvin. There’s definitely money being thrown around by the multi-billion dollar company to keep its fans engaged.
