The upcoming film is big on action
Musou (warriors) games are everywhere, and so it’s natural that the next step for the genre would be… movies? Back in 2016, Koei Tecmo announced the production of a film based on Dynasty Warriors, the progenitor of the genre, for release in 2019. A couple of years later (for obvious reasons) the film is now ready to hit theaters in China.
Dynasty Warriors is being produced by China 3D Digital Entertainment Limited, and features the Three Kingdoms time period and popular characters from game series. But it’s not just an epic giant battle film, it actually incorporates the explosive fight style from the games. Magic, spinning attacks, launching enemies into the sky — it’s all there, and it’s all seemingly choreographed nicely.
The movie opens on April 30th in China and Hong Kong. No word on a Western release yet.
