Monark is sure giving us more Shin Megami Tensei vibes

The upcoming game from developer Lancarse shares its opening movie

In the lead-up to E3, game information was flying fast. REAL FAST. And in that timeframe we found out about the new game Monark but didn’t have much time to report about it. Thankfully, there’s plenty of new information and a new video to keep us circling back.

Monark is being created by former developers tied to the Shin Megami Tensei series, and it sure as heck feels like it. The JRPG focuses on players utilizing “EGO” powers, which ties them to the world of demons. This, alongside themes of psychological ties and school relationships, makes it look like the kind of game that the devs wanted to make in the series but couldn’t because of the existing constraints of the I{P. But now they have their own IP!

And it’s still kind of similar. But that’s okay. It’s more of a perfection of the JRPG theme rather than a whole new direction. Whatever the case, it still looks great, both visually and thematically, and likely will make SMT/Persona fans excited. I know more than a couple folk in our community Discord are looking forward to it.

Monark is hitting Switch, PS4, and PS5 in japan in October, and then making its way West in 2022.
