Animal Crossing’s final free update revealed

Version 2.0 brings back fan favorites alongside cooking and more

At Nintendo’s special Animal Crossing focused Direct presentation, the company revealed a giant, albeit final, free update to its popular New Horizons game. The 2.0 update brings back a lot of fan-favorite features from previous games in the series alongside some new ideas.

Most notably, Brewster is back hosting his coffee shop. Located inside the Museum, The Roost cafe will let players order coffee, hang out with residents, and even bring in new Animal Crossing characters using amiibo and amiibo cards. Players can also invite friends over via the Switch’s online network.

Tour guide Kapp’n is back, giving boat trips to new islands. Unlike the existing tours, Kapp’n’s trips will head to islands with new flora, new items, and different climates, so that we’re not always stuck in Autumn this time of year.

Harv’s Island will go through a major overhaul, and one that will be much needed for fans who want to finally grab all of the timed or weekly content that’s easy to miss. By donating bells to Harv and his crew, shops will open on his island, allowing purchases from Redd, Sahara, and more that can help fill out our item catalogs. No more having to wait for Redd to come around with art.

Cooking will be added to DIY recipes, so all of those crops we’ve been growing in our gardens can finally be turned into some meals. Eating the food gives bonuses, of course. And gyroids are back, too, allowing for some more things to collect. In fact, placing a few together in a room might even make some unique tunes.

Additionally, the game will add morning stretching in front of the Town Hall for folks who want to have some yoga in their life, as well as ordinances and even more storage up to 5000 items.

The free update launches on November 5th.
