The Super Mario Bros movie release has been pushed forward

Sliding a couple of days ahead like a blue shell

With April just a few weeks away, the Super Mario Bros movie is right around the corner. Illumination (and Nintendo) had the film originally scheduled for an April 7th debut in most markets, but now that date is changing — forward.

Smartly, the companies realize that April 7th is Good Friday and a lot of people are off that day. It’s also right around Spring Break time. These days most films have Thursday night debuts to get folks interested in seeing it on a Friday evening, but with Friday April 7th essentially being like a Saturday this year, pushing the debut forward a couple of days makes a lot of sense. The film will now release on Wednesday, April 6th (and likely the day before that for early viewings) to build buzz for the long weekend.

That should be good news for fans in the US and “60 other markets,” except for Japan, which will get the film on April 28th. We’ll have seen it 6 times by then!

Anyhoo, Nintendo will debut the final trailer at a special Super Mario Bros Movie Direct on March 9 at 2PM PT/5PM ET, so get hyped for that as well. Watch that here: http://ninten.do/60045bjFG
